St. Lawerence School is located in the Huntington Section of Shelton, Connecticut.  We currently have an enrollment of 266 students.  We offer class from Pre-K3 through Grade 8.

Our Mission Statement

St. Lawrence School offers a Christ centered education while providing an academically challenging program.  By fostering the Catholic philosophy of serving God and community, and by instilling a life long desire for learning, each child is prepared spiritually, intellectually, and socially to become a loving citizen and disciple of Jesus Christ.

Our School Philosophy

Catholic education at St. Lawrence School is an expression of the mission entrusted by Jesus to the Church He founded.  The formation of this mission within children is the primary responsibility of the parents.  St. Lawrence School assists, encourages and supports the development of a prayerful and personal relationship with God and the integration of the Gospel values into daily life.  Thus, our students will be able to accept the responsibility of service to God, one another, the Church, the community and the world.

Our School Goals

In light of our philosophy, the objectives of St. Lawrence School are as follows:

• To make the Catholic Faith an integral part of the students' lives by providing opportunities for growth in faith with weekly Mass, special liturgies, Reconciliation Services, outreach activities, and daily religion classes.
  

• To promote academic excellence through recruitment, management and retention of the highest quality school administration, faculty and staff.  Continue strong student achievement set forth in our 2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Nomination.
  

• To enable the students to develop their knowledge through a variety of teaching strategies, (i.e. lecture-discussion, use of audio-visual aids, computers, as well as large and small group instruction).
  

• To give the students opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of the Diocese of  Bridgeport's standards-based curriculum through oral, written, artistic and other means of      creative expression.
  

• To promote physical fitness and develop habits in the children which will build and maintain good health through a physical education program, available health services, and various athletic activities.  To promote good sportsmanship and team cooperation.
  

• To provide the students with opportunities to become concerned and active citizens in their local communities through various assemblies and other extra-curricular activities such as community service programs and field trips.
  

• To promote increased professional competency of staff through continued formal studies, professional reading, attendance at local conferences, professional development, and workshops.
  

• To maintain a working relationship of cooperation between parents and teachers as well as between the parish and school.
  

• To increase visibility and communicate the values/benefits of the parish school to the general parish membership and community at large.
  

• To develop student leadership by providing opportunities to actively participate in school and community programs.
